What affects the price
- Size of the wall and the number of recesses, niches and shelving cut-outs to finish around.
- Type of fire opening — a shallow electric inset is easy; a deep hole-in-the-wall unit needs proper non-combustible lining and careful edges.
- Finish specified — a standard smooth skim is the norm; microcement, Venetian polish, fluted panels or stone slip returns all add significant cost.
- Whether first-fix electrics (TV feed, sockets, fire, LED strips) have been done properly before boarding — chasing back in after skim costs time.
- Access — most media walls are in furnished living rooms, so protecting sofas, TVs and flooring takes real care.

- Board joints taped and jointed, corner beads set at every external angle (there are usually a lot on a media wall — every recess has four).
- First skim coat on, worked into every recess and around every niche, flattened off with a feather-edge for sharp lines.
- Tight second coat and trowelled up until the light glances across it cleanly — this is where a proper media wall stands out from a rushed one.
- Sheets rolled, floors hoovered and mopped, wall left ready for paint, TV mount and fire fitting by your electrician.
How long does it take?
A plastering-only media wall is usually 1–2 days on site. A full build (frame, board and skim) is normally 3–5 working days with the joiner. Then it needs 5–7 days drying in a normally heated room before painting — media walls dry a touch slower than ordinary walls because of the recesses trapping moisture, so it's worth being patient.
